Cancellations, Returns & Exchanges
As every ARCELF piece is made to order and crafted individually by our artisans, we are unable to accept cancellations after an order is confirmed, or returns and exchanges for reasons of personal preference.
Returns and exchanges cannot be accepted in the following cases. Please review the product details, size, and material characteristics carefully before ordering.
- The piece differs from your expectations, or the color differs from your screen
- The size does not fit (ring size adjustments are handled not as returns or exchanges, but under "Ring Sizes & Resizing" below)
- Natural variations inherent to the materials (tones of urushi lacquer, the expression of the weave, inclusions or color variations in natural stones)
- Discoloration or changes that develop with wear over time
Defective or Incorrect Items
If your piece arrives damaged or differs from your order, please contact us at info@arcelf.com within 7 days of delivery. We will repair or exchange the piece, and return shipping will be covered by ARCELF.
For one-of-a-kind pieces, we will first offer a repair. If repair is not possible, we will provide a return and refund.
Please return the piece in the condition in which it arrived, using a trackable shipping method.
Ring Sizes & Resizing
The fit of a ring varies with its shape and design. All sizes are listed in Japanese ring sizes (gō). Please consult the size guide on each product page before ordering. If you are unsure of your size, we are happy to assist — simply contact us at info@arcelf.com.
Resizing
- Within 3 months of purchase, your first resizing (up to ±2 Japanese sizes) is complimentary.
- Subsequent resizings are available for a fee (from ¥5,500, tax included). As the cost varies depending on the material and design, we will provide a quotation in advance.
- Resizing beyond ±2 sizes is not available, in order to preserve the strength and design of the piece.
- Shipping costs both ways are borne by the customer. For requests from outside Japan, please contact us and we will advise you on how to return your item.
- Some ring designs cannot be resized. Resizing availability is indicated on each product page.
Designs That Cannot Be Resized
- Due to the nature of these designs, resizing and size exchanges are not available. Please consult our size guide before ordering and select your size carefully.
- Should the size not fit, we can offer to remake the piece in the correct size for a fee. The cost is quoted individually based on the material and design, and remaking requires our standard production time (1–1.5 months).
Care & Handling
ARCELF jewelry is born from Japanese craft materials and the hands of artisans — urushi lacquer, Nishijin-ori silk weaving, and deadstock gemstones. Unlike industrial products, each piece has its own expression and includes delicate materials. To enjoy your piece for years to come, please read the following before wear.
For All Pieces
- Always remove your jewelry before bathing, hot springs, saunas, swimming pools, and the sea. Sulfur, chlorine, and salt water cause discoloration and material damage.
- Avoid direct contact with perfume, hairspray, hand cream, alcohol-based sanitizers, and cosmetics. We recommend putting on your jewelry after applying makeup and fragrance.
- Remove your jewelry before sleeping, sports, physical work, and caring for infants, to prevent damage or injury.
- Never use ultrasonic cleaners. They can damage lacquer, woven elements, and bonded parts.
- After wear, gently wipe away oils and perspiration with a soft, dry cloth, and store your piece in its box.
- Depending on your skin, itching or irritation may occur. If you notice any reaction, discontinue wear immediately and consult a dermatologist.
Pieces with Urushi (Japanese Lacquer)
Urushi is a living, natural material that exists in harmony with humidity.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and UV light, which cause discoloration and fading. Store away from sunlight.
- Urushi is sensitive to extreme dryness. Avoid places with direct air-conditioning flow, and do not store sealed together with desiccants.
- Do not leave in hot environments, such as inside a car in summer or near heaters.
- Never use alcohol, nail-polish remover, detergents, or abrasives — they damage the lacquer surface.
- Contact with hard objects or strong impact can cause chipping or peeling.
- To care for urushi, simply wipe gently with a soft, dry (or very lightly dampened) cloth.
- Urushi deepens in luster the more it is worn. Changes in tone and sheen over time are not defects, but part of the beauty unique to lacquer.
- Fully cured urushi rarely causes skin reactions; however, if you are sensitive to lacquer, please take care. Discontinue wear and consult a dermatologist if any reaction occurs.
Pieces with Nishijin-ori & Textiles
Woven with silk and threads of gold and silver, these textiles carry a delicacy of their own, different from that of gemstones.
- Keep away from water. Please avoid wear on rainy days, or take great care. If the piece becomes wet, do not rub — press gently with a dry cloth and let it dry in the shade.
- Textiles are sensitive to friction, which can cause fraying, fuzzing, or pulled threads. Take care around bag handles, clothing, fingernails, and metal fittings.
- Perspiration and skin oils left on the textile can cause discoloration and staining.
- Storage in direct sunlight causes fading.
- Gold and silver threads may tarnish through contact with the air. After wear, wipe gently with a dry cloth and store in the box.
- These pieces cannot be washed, dry-cleaned, or bleached at home. If you are concerned about soiling, please contact us rather than treating it yourself.
- The expression of the weave and pattern differs from piece to piece. Please enjoy these variations as the mark of handwork.
Metal Components (Sterling Silver 925 / K10 Gold Plating)
ARCELF jewelry is crafted in sterling silver 925 with a thick K10 gold plating of 3 microns — substantially thicker than standard gold plating (typically 0.5–1 micron) and made for everyday wear. Plating is not permanent, however, and may gradually wear with use. The following care will keep your piece beautiful for longer.
- Never use silver-polishing cloths, abrasives, or toothpaste. These wear away the plating. A gentle wipe with a soft, dry cloth is all that is needed.
- Remove your jewelry before applying hand cream, sunscreen, or perfume, and before using alcohol-based sanitizers. Chemicals accelerate wear and discoloration of the plating.
- Perspiration and oils left on the metal cause dullness. Wipe gently with a soft cloth after wear.
- Hot springs, pools, and seawater cause discoloration. Always remove your jewelry beforehand.
- Store in an airtight pouch or in the box, away from open air — the sterling silver base naturally tarnishes when it reacts with sulfur in the air.
- Should the plating thin with wear, the base remains precious sterling silver 925. Re-plating services are available — please see "Repairs & Aftercare" below.
- Changes in the luster or tone of the plating over time are not defects.
- Our pieces are nickel-free and gentle on sensitive skin. Reactions nevertheless vary by individual; if you notice any irritation, discontinue wear and consult a dermatologist.
Made-to-Order in Solid Gold (K10 / K18)
- Selected pieces can be made to order in solid K10 or K18 gold. As prices follow the gold market, we provide an individual quotation for each request. Please contact us at info@arcelf.com.
- Quotations remain valid for two weeks from the date of issue.
- Production times for solid-gold orders differ from standard pieces and will be confirmed with your quotation.
Pieces with Natural & Deadstock Gemstones
- Natural stones carry individual inclusions, color variations, and textures. These are the character of natural materials, not defects.
- Certain stones may discolor or deteriorate with UV light, heat, dryness, or chemicals. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight.
- Impact can cause chipping or cracking. Take care to avoid drops and contact with hard surfaces.
Repairs & Aftercare
We offer repair services (fee applies) including polishing, chain repair, refinishing, and restoration of urushi and woven elements. Our hope is that your ARCELF piece will be worn for years — and generations — to come, and we are here to support it throughout. Please contact us at info@arcelf.com.
Please refrain from repairing, altering, or gluing your piece yourself, as this may make it impossible for us to accept it for repair.
Re-plating (Vermeil)
- If peeling or discoloration occurs under normal use within 3 months of purchase, we will re-plate your piece free of charge.
- Beyond that period, we are happy to re-plate your piece as many times as you wish, for a fee:
- Rhodium plating: ¥4,400 (tax included)
- K10 gold plating (vermeil): ¥8,800 (tax included)
- Peeling caused by drops, strong impact, or chemicals (hot springs, bleach, etc.) is not covered by the complimentary re-plating.
Shipping Costs (Repairs & Resizing)
Shipping costs both ways are borne by the customer. Please send your item with shipping prepaid (we are unable to accept cash-on-delivery returns). For requests from outside Japan, we will advise you individually on how to return your item.
